Now, have you ever dreamed about having a place where all the masterpieces would be gathered for you? Yes? That this article is a must-read for you so continue reading and get excited!
Prelude
Some days ago I was honoured to interview Mr. Stef Nitert from Enschede, Netherlands.
Stef studied Applied Arts and now works as a freelancer. He specialises on Interface & Interaction design of web applications and product animations.
Now I’m going to tell you the story of his tremendous project.
Introduction
Being a design and animation lover, he often searched the web for a source of inspiration, just like every one does. One day the brilliant idea of gathering the best inspirational stuff in one place came to his mind. It had to be a place where people can see a lot of good projects in one view. So, in about the second week of November Stef launced the website called Motiongraphics.nu.
“Well, it started mostly out of a search for inspiration. Alot of people are searching Youtube and Vimeo for great Motion Graphics works and I like to filter the best for them. Motiongraphics.nu is a result of my passion for Graphic Design and Motion Graphics. It’s a place where I try to post works that have some high quality, have hard work in it and which are smooth projects according to my taste.” Stef.
Stef posted about 10 videos at the same time when he started the site. The ones that impressed him the most were the Guinness commercial “The World” and “Yankee Gal” – a short (~5 min) movie made by some very tallented French people back in 2008.
Check it out:
“Yankee Gal”
Stef tries to post at least one/two new videos per day, but of course it doesn’t work out every day (and there’s no need to explain why). As for the time, he usualy spends couple a hours a day for finding some new great works, looking through Vimeo and not only, reading the twitts of people he follows, etc.
If there are anybody thinking that such a free “hobby” might be boring, I must say that it’s not just a hobby but a passion that also helps a lot of people! In other words doing something for free to help people in any way, and all that stuff – it will never be boring while it is something you’re passionate about.
“I do enjoy this alot! Sometimes when I’m in the middle of a project an haven’t got the time then I just don’t search that long… But I enjoy this site.. and the reactions of people I got. It’s motivating…” Stef.
Site Overview
On the home page you can see all the featured videos in one view.
But also you may go to a different category by using the navigation menu on the top.
What I like most is that the videos are so perfectly categorised!
- Advertising: some incredibly amazing commercials for the world’s best know companies, products and not only that!
- Experimental: the title says for itself…
- Motion: catchy and very impressive motion graphics.
- Music-Video: a few music videos that are definitely worth watching.
- Short-Movie: a lot of shorts that could inspire you more than anything! (The fresh one is “Samurai” – killer video! Haven’t seen it yet? Do so!)
- Showreel: fantastic showreels! Indefinite amount of inspiration!
- Trailers: a few cinematic trailers that stand out from the crowd!

Future
I also wondered if Stef was planning to expand Motiongraphics.nu and received a very positive answer. He’s been thinking a lot about that and has been testing some stuff a lot. The main idea of expansion is about
“making a bit more of a community so people can learn from each other”
The original concept will, of course, be retained!
Stay tuned!
Interesting fact about Stef Nitert
Stef was a landscape architect before applying to Art School.
Stef: It isn’t too late to do something radical!
Me: Was it worth it? (changing the field)
Stef: Absolutely! Best choice I’ve ever made. I really enjoy designing applications.. Making concepts.. Love this profession! I also like working in after effects but I’m not a great animator myself. So I doubt my work would be featured on motiongraphics.nu.
But I just love great animation..
Profit?
Only fun, inspiration and positive feedback!
Motiongraphics.nu is not a commercial project but on the other hand, of course, it takes money to maintain it so the site could use some sponsor’s help
Support
As you already know, Stef doesn’ t always have enough time to spend on adding new pieces to the site (I’d call it “the vault of inspiration”).
An old classmate and motion designer Rob Wienk is helping him from time to time. By the way, Rob’s works are very impressive, you will find a link to his website below.
Contacts
Motiongraphics.nu:
Twitter (follow Motiongraphics to receive the updates and more)
Vimeo (look through Stef’s contacts and I’m sure you’ll find some new spectacular stuff)
