How to make money from Motion Graphics

So you want to make money from motion graphics ? Well aside from freelancing, one way to make passive income is to sell stock motion graphics.  It’s a bit of hard work at the beginning, but once you’ve done that you can sit back and let the money roll in.

Below are 3 sites to sell your stock motion graphics:

Video Hive

Video Hive

Video Hive is one of the marketplace sites run by Envato.  It is based along the same lines as the very succesful Active Den and Theme Forest.  Video Hive allows you to sell Stock Footage,  Motion Graphics such as backgrounds, lower thirds etc and even project files for people to download and change according to their needs.  Their author programme means the more you sell the more of the cut of the sale you get. They have also recently merged with rerendered meaningthey now have an even bigger catalogue.

Istockphoto

Istockphoto

Istockphoto is one of the big sites in the stock photography world but the site also sells videos, illustrations and audio.  Some of the examples i’ve seen on their aren’t always amazing but thats one reason to put some effort in to get on there.  If your work stands out then people are going to more likely to buy it!  Again as with Video Hive, they have an author programme where you get a different cut depending on wether your an exclusive author and how much you sel etcc..

RevoStock

Revostock

RevoStock allows you to sell stock footage, audio (both music and sound effects) as well as After Effects projects.  You can also sell backgrounds and transitions.  Revostock is different from say Video Hive, as it allows the seller to set there own price where as with the Envato marketplaces such as Video Hive, your submission is reviewed and a price set.

I actually started what could be my first stock piece this evening while messing with a new effect I found.

I am curious though if anyone is actually making any decent money off of this. The amount of people who need motion graphics, who cannot make it themselves, but do have the programs to edit them seem slim, and the sites cuts seem very high.

people do make good money out of motiongraphics and stock footage. There are websites with heavy traffic, you just need to register and place ur stuff for sale. The only ugly thing is they keep the lion’s share with themselves and give the owner only 15% to 20%. The workaround is to start ur own site.
